Biography of Beyoncé
Beyoncé Giselle Knowles, sometimes known as Beyoncé Carter, was born on 4 September 1981 in Houston, Texas.
An American singer, rapper, singer-songwriter, dancer, producer, actress and businesswoman, she is recognised as one of the most influential and award-winning artists in music history.
🎤 AN EARLY VOCATION
From an early age, Beyoncé stood out for her musical talent. At the age of 9, she took part in a singing competition with her friend Kelly Rowland, which led them to form the group Girl's Tyme.
In 1993, they appeared on the TV show Star Search. The group evolved into Destiny's Child in 1997, signed to Columbia Records. Their first hits, such as No, No, No, propelled the group to the top of the hits parade.
🌟 SOLO CAREER AND WORLDWIDE SUCCESS
In 2003, Beyoncé launched her solo career with the hugely successful album Dangerously in Love. Over the years, she has released several critically acclaimed albums, including B'Day, I Am... Sasha Fierce, 4, Beyoncé, Lemonade and Renaissance. Beyoncé's music is generally described as contemporary RnB, but she also incorporates other genres such as pop, fun, hip-hop and soul.
In 2024 her last album Cowboy Carter was released. It marked a turning point in his career, exploring the Afro-American roots of country music.
🌟 AWARDS AND RECOGNITION
Beyoncé has won numerous awards over the course of her career. She is the second most awarded artist in the world just after Michael Jackson.
In 2007, she made history by becoming the first female artist to win the International Artist Award at the American Music Awards. She is ranked as the number four artist of the 2000s by Billboard, and on 11 December 2009, Billboard magazine ranked her as the most successful female artist and the most played artist on radio in the decade 2000-2009. Her 2016 hit Formation became the most awarded song in history, surpassing Michael Jackson's hit Thriller.
She is the most awarded artist in the history of the Grammy Awards, with 35 trophies to her name. In 2025, she won the prestigious Album of the Year award for the first time for Cowboy Carter, becoming the first black woman to receive this distinction since Lauryn Hill in 1999. She also scooped the Grammy for Best Country Album, setting a record with 99 nominations in total.
🎶 MEMORABLES TOURS AND PERFORMANCES
Beyoncé is renowned for her exceptional stage performances. She sang the American national anthem at Barack Obama's second inauguration in 2013 and has performed the Super Bowl half-time show twice, in 2013 and 2016, accompanied for the occasion by Coldplay and Bruno Mars. Both shows are among the most popular half-time shows of all time. She is now one of the only artists, along with Bruno Mars and Justin Timberlake, to have performed twice at the Super Bowl half-time show.
Her Cowboy Carter Tour, launched in April 2025, pays tribute to the contributions of black artists to country music and has been a huge success on stages across North America and in major European cities including Paris and London. She will once again be causing a stir when she returns to her French fans for 3 exceptional concerts in Paris on 19, 21 and 22 June 2025.
