Imagine Dragons at the Stade de France
Biography of Imagine Dragons
IMAGINE DRAGONS is an American alternative rock band from Las Vegas, formed in 2008. With seven albums in total, the band has sold 74 million albums and streamed 160 billion worldwide. Winning three American Music Awards, ten Billboard Music Awards and a Grammy Award, Imagine Dragons has become one of the most iconic pop-rock bands of the last decade.
🌀 FIRST EP AND SIGNING WITH INTERSCOPE
Their recording adventure began with the “Imagine Dragons” EP in September 2009, followed in 2010 by “Hell and Silence”. In 2011, their career took a decisive turn: they signed to Interscope Records (via the Kidinakorner label), with whom they released the “It's Time” EP, whose lead single marked their first breakthrough in the US charts.
By this time, the line-up had stabilised, with Dan Reynolds on vocals, Wayne Sermon on guitar, Ben McKee on bass and Daniel Platzman on drums.
🌟 2012, THE START OF GLOBAL SUCCESS
In February 2012, they released “Continued Silence”, recorded at Westlake Recording Studios in California. The single “It's Time” quickly climbed the charts, reaching number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100, and their video was nominated at the MTV Video Music Awards.
On 3 September 2012, their debut album “Night Visions” was released. It was a runaway success: the second best-selling rock album since 2006. The mix of rock, synths and hip-hop influences won over a wide audience. The track ‘Radioactive’, a veritable anthem, exploded onto the scene thanks to its inclusion in the Assassin's Creed III trailer and on the soundtrack of the film ‘Les Âmes vagabondes’.
In 2013, the band embarked on a world tour (Night Visions Tour), selling out arenas across the United States before heading off to Europe.
🏆 GRAMMY AWARD AND TRANSITION
n 2014, “Radioactive” won them a Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance. The song was revisited with rapper Kendrick Lamar. Their ‘Into The Night Tour’ ended at the Lollapalooza festival in Brazil, marking the end of this first cycle. Their final single from Night Visions, “On Top of the World”, was also a big hit.
🔥 'SMOKE + MIRRORS' : THE SECOND WIND
The following year, in February 2015, they released “Smoke + Mirrors”, their second album. Recorded in their home studio in Las Vegas, the album reflects their greater musical maturity, with more complex sounds and intense lyrics mixing pain and hope. They set off on another world tour.
⏸️ PAUSE AND REBIRTH WITH 'EVOLVE'
After a more discreet period marked by a few tracks in soundtracks (such as those for Suicide Squad or Passengers), Imagine Dragons returned in 2017 with ‘Believer’, then “Thunder”, taken from their third album ‘Evolve’, released in June 2017. The album was a global success, selling millions of albums and racking up billions of streams. The group was nominated at the NRJ Music Awards in the International Group/Duo of the Year category.
🔙 TRIUMPHANT RETURN WITH ‘MERCURY’ (2021-2022)
After a fourth album released in November 2018 and then three years of silence, Imagine Dragons returned in early 2021 with the tracks ‘Follow You’ and “Cutthroat”, heralding the album ‘Mercury - Act 1’, released in September 2021. One of their lead singles, “Enemy”, was chosen for the Netflix animated series “Arcane - League of Legends”, in collaboration with rapper J.I.D.
In 2022, they unveiled three new singles: “Bones”, “Sharks”, and “Love of Mine” (an unreleased demo from Night Visions). They celebrate the 10th anniversary of their debut album with a special edition, Night Visions - 10th Anniversary. The year ended with the release of “Mercury - Acts 2”, the second part of the diptych, containing 18 tracks.
💥 NEW ALBUM AND A RETURN TO 2024: 'LOOM'
In the summer of 2024, Imagine Dragons unveiled their sixth studio album, “Loom”, with the single “Eyes Closed” an instant hit. The project, a mixture of sadness, heartbreak, excitement and euphoria, was greeted with fervour by fans around the world. This return marks a new artistic stage, enriched by years of touring, personal reflection and musical maturity.
