BIOGRAPHY OF COLDPLAY
The alternative rock band, Coldplay, was formed in 1998 in London and consists of 4 members: Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion. With over 40 million albums sold, Coldplay are one of the most popular POP groups of the moment.
The band achieved international recognition following the release of their debut album, *Parachutes*, in 2000. Driven in particular by the track ‘Yellow’, the album won the Brit Award for Best British Album as well as the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album. Two years later, *A Rush of Blood to the Head* cemented their success and won the same awards.
Over the years, Coldplay have developed a musical identity that has gradually moved beyond their alternative rock and pop rock roots. From the albums *X&Y* in 2005 and *Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends* in 2008 to *Mylo Xyloto*, *Ghost Stories*, *A Head Full of Dreams* and *Everyday Life*, the band have evolved their sound by incorporating influences from electronic, pop, ambient, funk and even gospel music.
Among the tracks that have defined their career are ‘Yellow’, ‘Clocks’, ‘Viva la Vida’ and ‘My Universe’. ‘Clocks’ won the Grammy Award for Record of the Year in 2004, whilst ‘Viva la Vida’ won Song of the Year in 2009.
In 2021, Coldplay began a new chapter with the album *Music of the Spheres*. The project notably features “My Universe”, a collaboration with BTS which became the first song by a British band to enter the Billboard Hot 100 at number one. It also gave rise to the *Music of the Spheres World Tour*, which has established itself as one of the most significant tours in history in terms of attendance and revenue.
In October 2024, Coldplay released their tenth studio album, *Moon Music*, continuing a recording career that began nearly a quarter of a century earlier with *Parachutes*.
The band has received numerous awards throughout its career, including seven Grammy Awards and nine Brit Awards. Beyond its recording successes, Coldplay has also distinguished itself through the scale and visual spectacle of its concerts, which have become a major part of its artistic identity.
After more than two decades of an international career, Coldplay thus occupies a prominent place in the British and international music scene, with a discography ranging from the alternative rock of their early days to pop productions designed for large stages and world tours.
