THE BEGINNINGS: AN INNOVATIVE LINE-UP

THE RISE IN THE K-POP WORLD
From their official debut in March 2018 with the mini-album I Am NOT, Stray Kids won over audiences with the hard-hitting single ‘District 9’. Blending rap, rock, pop and electro, the group won over a fanbase (the STAY) looking for strong messages about perseverance, identity and inner struggle, all common elements in their discography. The follow-up was not long in coming: I Am WHO and I Am YOU, released the same year, confirmed their rise to prominence.
In 2019, with Clé 1 : Miroh, Stray Kids reached international stature: the energetic and daring track ‘Miroh’ marked a real breakthrough and climbed up the charts worldwide. The following year, with the album Go Live, they strengthened their presence on stage and in the charts, confirming their status in Korea and internationally, thanks to their innovative videos and concerts.
2021 marks a turning point: Noeasy, their fourth Korean EP, became the first album by a JYP group to sell over a million copies. The singles ‘Thunderous’ and ‘Cheese’ displayed unprecedented sonic and visual audacity, proving that Stray Kids had mastered the art of renewing themselves and embracing musical diversity. Their series of mini-albums, Oddinary and Maxident (2022), followed by the studio album 5-Star and the EP Rock-Star (2023), were dazzling successes in South Korea, while the single ‘Lalalala’ became a national hit.
IFPI ranks Stray Kids as the third best-selling artist in 2023, behind Taylor Swift and Seventeen.
2024: A WORLDWIDE SUCCESS
In 2024, the ninth Ate EP topped the charts in Korea, as well as in Austria, Belgium, France, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Portugal and the United States. Stray Kids became the first K-pop group to place its first five albums at the top of the Billboard 200, and embarked on a DominATE world tour, covering Asia, Australia, Latin America, North America and Europe, with concerts in major arenas.
In October, they shone at the American Music Awards, becoming only the second K-pop group to perform there after BTS. On 13 November, their second Japanese album Giant was released, followed on 13 December by the mixtape SKZhop Hiptape: Hop and the single ‘Walkin on Water’, which topped the charts in Korea and the United States. Once again, Stray Kids make history as the first band to top the Billboard 200 with their first six albums, and IFPI ranks them as the fifth best-selling artist of 2024, with the Ate EP in the top ten best-selling albums.
