About the French rugby team
The French rugby union team represents France in all major rugby union internationals. Since 1919 it has included the best players of the French Rugby Federation (FFR).
The history of the rugby team
At the start of the 20th century, the French National Team, “XV de France”, played in royal blue jerseys, white breeches and red socks: representing the French flag. Since that time, while the jersey’s colour combination has undergone multiple changes, the socks remain red to this day. Like the badge of the French nation, the proud and combative Gallic rooster, is proudly portrayed on the French rugby union team’s jersey. Internationally, the very first match of the XV de France took place in 1906 against New Zealand, which would go on to become the world’s greatest rugby team. If we were to choose just one out of all the French national team’s matches at Stade de France, perhaps it would be France-England in 1998, the first rugby match in the Dionysian arena, in which such players as Christophe Lamaison, Philippe Bernat-Salles and Thomas Castaignède shined and led Les Bleus to victory. Since 2019, the French rugby team’s head coach is Fabien Galthié.

World cup 2019
France’s National Team fell in the World Cup Quarter-Final, after leading by a score of 19 to 10. Vahaamahina had the chance to carry France to victory, but when his elbow hit the head of a Wales team member, the referee responded immediately, refusing to let the incident go unpunished ... Diminished, the XV de France ultimately bowed out. Vahaamahina would be left with the guilt of seeing the French team defeated and knocked out of the tournament in the quarter-finals, as well as lose the esteem of certain supporters. The aim of playing a semi-final and final in the World Cup went up in smoke.
