Biography of Bruno Mars

Bruno Mars is a global superstar, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer and winner of 16 GRAMMY® Awards.

He is one of the most streamed artists in the world. Renowned for his showmanship and his must-listen tracks, Bruno has set numerous records throughout his career, notably by becoming the first artist to reach 150 million monthly listeners on Spotify, featuring on two of the fastest songs to reach one billion streams (‘Die With A Smile’ with Lady Gaga and ‘APT. ’ with ROSÉ), and by securing the most certified song in history by the RIAA with ‘Just the Way You Are’ (2010).

Peter Gene Hernandez, better known as Bruno Mars, was born on 8 October 1985 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He made his debut in the local family show *The Love Notes* at the age of just four and took his first steps in film with *Honeymoon in Vegas* in 1992.

After finishing secondary school in 2003, he moved to Los Angeles to devote himself fully to music. He first signed with Motown in 2004, without releasing an album, before founding the production collective The Smeezingtons with Philip Lawrence and Ari Levine. Together, they wrote hits for Flo Rida (‘Right Round’), K’Naan (‘Wavin’ Flag’) and others.

He first came into the spotlight in 2009, featuring on B.o.B’s single ‘Nothin’ on You’, which reached number one in the US. His first solo album, *Doo-Wops & Hooligans* (2010), made a lasting impression with the hits “Just the Way You Are”, “Grenade” and “The Lazy Song”. The craze continued with *Unorthodox Jukebox* (2012), driven by “Locked Out of Heaven” and “When I Was Your Man”, which won a Grammy for Best Pop Album.

In 2014, he performed “Uptown Funk” alongside Mark Ronson, which went on to become the hit of the decade. In 2016, his album 24K Magic, with its funk and R&B influences, earned him the Grammy for Album of the Year.

In 2021, he formed the duo Silk Sonic with Anderson . Paak to form the duo Silk Sonic: their debut album *An Evening with Silk Sonic* enjoyed global success, thanks in particular to the single “Leave the Door Open”. In 2024–2025, his collaborations, including “Die with a Smile” with Lady Gaga and “APT.” with Rosé, topped the Billboard Global 200 for 30 weeks, cementing his status as a global superstar.

In 2026, he returned with *The Romantic*, his first solo album in ten years, with the lead single “I Just Might” released on 9 January. As part of his *The Romantic Tour* world tour, he performed three dates at the Stade de France on 18, 20 and 21 June.
